Turmeric Paste Recipe For Animals and Humans

28 October, 2015

By Jenni Madison

Doug English (Veterinarian) has been using turmeric with animals to control inflammation and pain in itchy skin conditions like allergy, atopy, arthritis, infections, age degeneration and various cancers.

This paste recipe was developed by Doug and is safe to use for both humans and pets.

Magical Ingredients:

1/2 cup turmeric powder

1 cup water PLUS 1 cup water in reserve, if needed

1/3 cup cold pressed coconut oil

1 1/2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper

What to do:

Place turmeric and water in pan, stirring over gentle heat until you have a thick paste. This should take about 7-10 minutes and you may need to add additional water along the way.

Add the freshly ground pepper and oil AT THE END of cooking. Stir well (a whisk is ideal) to incorporate the oil and allow to cool.

The Golden Paste will keep for 2 weeks, refrigerated

Freeze a portion if you think you have too much to use within two weeks.

NB: Omit pepper if you cannot tolerate it. The absorption of turmeric will still be improved by cooking the paste AND by the inclusion of oil, BUT remember it will be less effective without the pepper.

For humans: it’s a good idea to start gently and let your body adjust – 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric paste or powder, 3 times a day, is a great starting point. Take note of how you feel and if it is giving any benefit. Increase as you feel ready, but again just go gently – perhaps 1/2 teaspoon 3 times a day and so on.

For animals: Start small and build up the dose over a two to three week period. Gradually increase your animal’s dosage with incremental doses over a weekly period (ie. every 5-7 days).

Note: Animals can go through a body detox when adding turmeric to their diet for the first time and if there are any signs of loose stools or stomach upset then you may wish to reduce the dose to 1/8 teaspoon or so, and remain at a lower dose for a longer period.
