If coconut oil is high in saturated fat, how can it still be healthy?

There is a widespread misconception about saturated fat being bad. This is one of the best videos I have seen to explain this misconception:

Is coconut oil fattening?

Coconut oil is made up predominantly of medium chain fatty acids. What does this mean?

This means that coconut oil is treated very differently by the body. Unlike other oils coconut oil is not stored as fat in the body, but rather is converted by the liver into a source of energy.

Therefore despite the 'high calorie' content found in coconut oil, it is not fattening. On the contrary because of the way the MCFA's in coconut oil are metabolised it will assist the body in shedding unwanted kilos and body fat.

How do I take coconut oil for weight loss?

The best way to take coconut oil for weight loss is;

  • First thing in the morning with warm water and lemon juice.
  • In a green smoothie every day.
  • In your coffee or green tea every day.
  • Oil pulling therapy.
  • Use it as a cooking oil. Replace all butters and other cooking oils with coconut oil.

Coconut oil being a medium chain fatty acid converts by the liver directly into energy, it increases metabolism, burns up kilojoules and detoxes the body. All of these benefits contribute to healthy weight loss.

The recommended dose for weight loss is 3 tablespoons per day, taken with meals. The MCT (medium chain trygliceride) components of coconut oil will help burn up the kilojoules of each meal.

The thing to remember is to really get the benfits of coconut oil, and for it to work it's magic in your body, it is important to stop taking the foods and oils that cause weight gain. Hydrogenated oils for example will completely counteract the positive affects of coconut oil.

Here's a list of foods to avoid:

  • Processed and GMO foods. All packaged foods pretty much fit into this category.
  • Hydrogenated oils, vegetable oils (canola, soy bean, peanut, margarine, sunflower and safflower oils).
  • Refined carbohydrtaes such as pasta, white breads and pastries. And Refined sugars, including white, raw and cane sugar.
  • Dairy products. Animal products such as dairy consist of long chain fatty acids. They are difficult for the body to assimilate, they create toxicity and are mucus forming, and they do not give the body energy but rather store as fat.

For healthy weightloss the body needs to have a high plant based diet, that is lots of fresh and raw fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats.

Is Coconut Oil a natural sunscreen, and is it safe to use in the sun?

Surfers and sun lovers are using coconutoil to take care of their skin in the sunny months. How is that?

Coconut oil has skin protection properties. It helps to neutralise toxic micro-fungi and bacteria on the skins surface. This helps prevent sun burn.

Coconut oil deeply hydrates and moisturises the skin also. This is how the Natives on Islands have such beautiful skin, naturally. Each morning when they wake up they wash, knowing that they are washing off their natural skin oil (Sebum). I therefore inquired about this with Dr Bruce Fife, authority in the research of coconut oil and its benefits, and he related that diet plays an important role. He says that for full sun protection with coconut oil, it is important that the diet is also clean, and that toxic oils, hydrogenaated vegetable oils for example, are flushed from the system. Coconut oil being taken 3 times a day for around 2-3 months will achieve this.

I recommend you start slowly, give it a go. Drink plenty of water, and start using coconut oil for cooking and taking 1-3 tblsp per day with lemon water, herbal tea or in your green smoothies. Coinsider a lifestyle of cleansing and alkalising foods.

Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) is high in Medium Chain Fatty Acids (MCFA’s), this is the important component of VCO. It is a combination of Lauric, Capric, Capryllic and Mysristic acid. All of these elements work together as a whole to benefit your health.

There are also a number of brands now using the Lauric acid content as their marketing strategy to have you believe they have higher quality oil. This is slightly inaccurate because the Lauric acid content will hardly be the same from batch to batch. I prefer to tell my customers that the Lauric acid content in our coconut oil is what we derive naturally from our VCO, by using fully matured coconuts, with the highest development of the MCFA content. I have viewed independent reports and in our pure unrefined coconut oil, the range for Lauric acid will vary from 45%-55% on average. The range itself may continue to vary. Other elements such as Capric, Caprylic and Myristic acids are equally as important.

The best way to know how pure and beautiful a coconut oil really is, is to taste and smell it. Pure unrefined, virgin coconut oil is clean, smooth and totally delightful.

In the old days before coconut oil became so big in the West it was only ever called VCO, modern mainstream marketing like to add all these new bells and whistles.

When substituting olive oil with coconut oil for cooking how much should I use?

Health advocates today are highly recommending to use coconut oil for cooking. This is because coconut oil has a high smoke point and will not break down when heated forming dangerous trans fatty acids, which cause free radical damage.

When making the switch you can replace butter, margarine and your regular cooking oils with coconut oil.

You can use equal amounts. If you were previously coooking with olive oil, or you are following a recipe which suggests 1 tablespoon of cooking oil, you can use the equal amount of coconut oil.

Is sugar healthy?

No sugar is not healthy. That includes all kinds of refined sugar, white, brown, raw and cane. We recommend no sugar at all during the 10 day Coconut Cleanse, in fact we recommend no sugar ever.

Sugar messes with your insulin production, causes energy slumps and blood sugar spikes and is also toxic in the body because of the high amounts of chemicals used to produce it. Sugar is a sweet poison.

The great news is we have lots of healthy sweet substitutes. Like Organic Coconut Flower Nectar, Coconut Sugar, and Stevia. You may also like Raw Honey or Agave, although these do have a higher GI and fructose levels than the coconut based sweeteners, so we prefer our beloved coconuts!
